Wolf Kahn (American, b. Germany, 1927–2020) Tall Pines, 1999 Given that Wolf Kahn worked in nearly violent colors, his paintings are wonderfully tranquil. Exercises in chromatic tension and formal movement, they are also sharply evocative of real-world landscapes. In this painting, the bold purples and greens, edged by contrasting yellows, pinks, and oranges, invite us to see color anew in the traditional subject of a landscape.
